Blue Technology Supports Advance Security's 'Green' Drive

Advance Security is harnessing Volkwagen’s BlueMotion Technology to further cut carbon emissions across the company.

Since attaining the ISO 14001 British Standard for Environmental Management in 2008, the manned guarding specialist has successfully reduced its CO2 footprint year-on-year by implementing simple measures such as installing video and teleconferencing facilities, introducing a paper usage policy and analysing the number of journeys made by our operational management teams, total miles covered and purpose of travel.

As part of its continued commitment to championing the environmental cause, the CSR Steering Group is now exploring new ways to strengthen its eco credentials, while achieving cost benefits across the business. One resulting initiative is the investment in Volkswagen’s Golf BlueMotion TDi – marketed as being one of the German manufacturers’ most energy-efficient models - to enhance its existing low carbon fleet.

“We’ve trialled the Golf BlueMotion with one of our larger London contracts and have already seen substantial benefits in adopting the technology,” said Advance Security’s Managing Director, Richard Bailey.

“Besides bringing down our CO2 emissions, the much more economic fuel consumption is helping us save on fuel and tax costs too. The dedicated security team - who uses the vehicle to respond to any incidents across sites - has observed that the BlueMotion allows 900 miles from only one tank of fuel and limits consumption by clever touches such as automatically switching the engine off when the car is sitting idle in traffic.
 
“It’s fair to say that we’ve been impressed with the technology so far and we’ll be looking to invest in additional BlueMotion vehicles as and when our car contract comes up for renewal.”

A modified advanced TDi engine, longer gear ratios, diesel particulate filter, sleeker aerodynamics and low resistance tyres are just some of the design features that contribute to the BlueMotion’s superior carbon friendly status.
