Advance Security on Target with Seminar Event

The focus for the two Meet and Shoot days, which were held last week at EJ Churchill Shooting Ground in High Wycombe and Cloudside in Congleton, Cheshire, was a company update from Advance MD, Richard Bailey, alongside a guest presentation from Simone Zimmermann, assistant director in the fraud investigation and dispute services division of Ernst & Young, on the risks associated with the online virtual world, Second Life.

In particular, Simone outlined the rising levels of crime within the user-generated programme, particularly in the United States, where law enforcement agencies are tackling growing incidents of identity theft, fraud and sabotage. In addition, she outlined to the assembled audience the very modern phenomenon of ‘virtual crime’ and the philosophical questions attached to the incidents of virtual murder, rape and terrorism, which are increasing every day within Second Life.

The two seminars were followed by individual and team shooting competitions. Bill Connelly from McKinseys swept the board in the southern individual event, whilst Kevin Newby from BAE systems won a northern event shoot-off, after three attendees scored an impressive 19 out of 20 in their respective rounds.

In the southern team event, Bill Connelly was successful again, and was joined by Mark Hanna from Nomura and Advance Security’s own Greg Morganti in taking first place. Meanwhile at Cloudside, the team of Dean Cooper and Paul Burke from SDG, Keith Barrett from Steria and Michael Clark from Marketecture were joined by Lee Ennis, Harry Robinson and Richard Bailey in claiming first prize.

Of the two events Richard Bailey commented: “Over the past year Advance has made significant progress, winning a number of major new accounts and making great strides in the areas of CSR and HR policy. The Meet and Shoot days provide an excellent opportunity to combine business with networking, allowing us to update our clients on new company initiatives, whilst bringing out their competitive nature with a fantastic day’s shooting.  After the success of last year’s southern event we were delighted to add to it this year with a northern event at Cloudside and have received excellent feedback from everyone who attended, both on the shooting and on Simone’s thought provoking presentation.”
